A modern A-frame hut complex nestled in the rainforest. Capacity: 60 climbers. Features sleeping quarters, dining hall, solar lighting, and flush toilets. The surrounding forest is alive with birdsong and colobus monkeys.

Horombo Hut

3,720m (12,205ft)

The largest hut on the mountain, accommodating 120 climbers. Located in the heath zone with stunning views of Mawenzi Peak. Features dormitories, a communal dining room, solar-powered lights, and flush toilets. Your base for two nights.

Kibo Hut

4,700m (15,420ft)

A stone-built hut at the base of Kibo Peak. Capacity: 60 climbers. Basic but functional with dormitory bunks and a communal dining area. This is your launch point for summit night — a short rest before the midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak.

Do I need camping gear for the Marangu Route?

No. The Marangu Route is the only route that provides hut accommodation throughout. You sleep in dormitory-style huts with mattresses and pillows. You will need a sleeping bag, but no tent is required.

What is the summit success rate for the 5-Day Marangu Route?

The summit success rate for the 5-day version is approximately 60-70% for well-prepared climbers. The 6-day version offers higher rates (75-85%) due to the extra acclimatization day. We recommend the 6-day version for first-time climbers.

What fitness level is required?

A good level of fitness is essential. The 5-day itinerary moves faster with less time for recovery. We recommend regular cardiovascular exercise (hiking, running, cycling) for at least 3 months prior to your climb.

What is the best time of year to climb the Marangu Route?

The best times are January-March and June-October. These months offer the most stable weather conditions. The short rainy season (November-December) and long rainy season (April-May) are less ideal but still possible.

How many guides and porters will be on my team?

For safety and comfort, we provide one guide per 2-3 climbers, plus dedicated porters to carry equipment and supplies. A typical group of 4 climbers includes 2 guides and 6-8 porters.
